Four advantages of being “self-pay”

Self-pay patients have a variety of perks.

As a CHM member, you’re considered a self-pay patient. You don’t have insurance and are responsible for your own medical bills. You’re billed directly for your medical costs and then your CHM family reimburses you for your eligible medical bills.

Here are four (of more) self-pay patient perks:

No network restrictions. As a self-pay patient, you have flexibility to select your own provider and you’re not required to stay within a particular health system for healthcare services. The Guidelines clearly list what is and isn’t eligible for sharing, which gives you the ability to shop around for the best prices and quality.

You get self-pay discounts and reduced rates. Most physicians have automatic discounts for self-pay patients, making saving easy! In most cases, just say you’re a self-pay patient and ask for the self-pay discount. For a list of healthcare providers who have prearranged discounts for CHM members, visit chministries.org/chm-friendly-providers for even more cost cutting.

You don’t have to get pre-authorization or approvals. The Guidelines are always easily accessible on the website or on the Member Portal and explain what is and isn’t eligible for sharing. There’s no pre-authorization that needs to happen. You always know if something is eligible for sharing!

No hidden costs. Since you’re billed directly, you know in advance what you’re responsible for and how much services will actually cost. There’s no surprise billing or medical bills that show up unexpectedly.
