In the US, the average wait time for a primary care provider is about 26 days, making it difficult to get help when you need it. CHM’s Virtual Care Solution (VCS), powered by HealthTap, provides primary care and urgent care virtual visits for CHM members (age 1+).
VCS allows your doctors to know you personally. Plus, you can message them for up to 90 days after your primary care appointment. And any eligible associated testing or treatment costs can be submitted to CHM for sharing in accordance with the CHM Guidelines.

Both primary care and urgent care video visits, and messaging with your HealthTap primary care doctor, are included in VCS for every CHM member (age 1+)! For virtual primary care visits, you’ll have a range of HealthTap primary care providers to pick from, so you can find a doctor you love for long-term care! For virtual urgent care visits, you’ll have on-demand access to the first available HealthTap doctor, whom you don’t choose.
Yes! HealthTap’s online doctors can recommend specialist or in-person care whenever it is clinically appropriate. You can then book an appointment with a specialist of your choice.
Should your doctor feel that a prescription is necessary, they’ll electronically transmit your prescription immediately to your selected pharmacy where it will be filled per the pharmacy’s standard protocol. We always recommend checking with the pharmacy to see when it’ll be ready for pickup.
There are some medications that are always prescribed in person and cannot be prescribed by HealthTap doctors (or any other doctor seeing a patient online). These include opioids and other controlled substances (such as Adderall), and some psychiatric and lifestyle drugs.
It’s important to note that only incident related prescriptions are eligible for sharing per the CHM Guidelines (in accordance with your selected program). You can submit any eligible medical bills to CHM for sharing after your appointment.
The main patient must be present during any visits conducted via HealthTap. Doctors cannot proceed with the visit if the main patient is not present. This means that if an appointment is scheduled on behalf of a dependent child, the child must also be present during the visit.
HealthTap is a great fit for care that doesn’t require hands-on examination or paperwork. Examples include (but aren’t limited to) coughs, colds, sore throats, ear pain, eczema, and more. You can also set up a virtual visit to get travel advice, nutrition and diet advice, or even lifestyle advice for your little one!
For in-person physicals or paperwork, children will need to have local in-person care. For example: school forms, sports clearance forms, academic assessments, guardianship or custody forms, or other paperwork should all be done in-person by your local doctor and can’t be completed by a HealthTap provider.
HealthTap doctors are board-certified with an accredited American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) specialty board. They are based in the U.S., have at least one medical degree and have a valid and unrestricted license to practice in one or more U.S. states and no significant adverse professional action against the doctor’s medical license.
