Our newest arrival is Eden Naomi Cahill, born at home on March 24, 2012, with the help of a midwife. Her medical costs ($3,145) were shared by Christian Healthcare Ministries members.
We have four children, all born while we’ve been CHM members. Our eldest, Lance, was transported to the hospital soon after his birth due to a tear in his lung.
At that time we hadn’t yet submitted any medical bills to CHM and were worried that the bills might not be eligible for sharing. During Lance’s 10-day stay in the neonatal intensive care unit, doctors ran many tests. We’re thankful for their expertise and care to restore Lance to health.
With cost reduction tips gleaned from CHM newsletters and numerous phone calls to various hospital departments, we obtained an overall 60 percent discount on Lance’s bills. The reductions saved us and the ministry more than $55,000! All remaining bills were eligible for sharing among CHM members.
After seeing how quickly medical costs can add up, we also decided to join the Brother’s Keeper program, which assists with catastrophic medical bills.
We appreciate how CHM supported us in our decision to give birth to our children at home.
