December marks the official beginning of winter, and few things warm a winter night quite like a fresh bowl of beef stew. This hearty beef stew recipe is not only tasty—it’s easy, too!

  • 3 lbs of fresh beef stew meat (portobello mushrooms can be used as a meat substitute)
  • 2 onions
  • 1 slice of bread
  • 4 potatoes
  • 4 carrots
  • 2 stalks celery
  • 2 tbsp of tapioca
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Worchester sauce
  • 3 beef bouillon cubes
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Dice onions
  2. Break up the slice of bread
  3. Peel and cube potatoes
  4. Slice carrots and celery
  5. Put all ingredients in greased roaster or crock pot
  6. Cover with water
  7. Roast at 300 degrees, covered, for three hours. If you use a crock pot, cook roughly four hours on high.
