Christmas! The word’s very sight and sound brings a unique sense of excitement and expectation. From the lights and decorations to the familiar melodies and narratives, the spirit of Christmas is one of great joy and hope for every person, everywhere.
In a world often filled with uncertainty and despair, Christmas offers everyone the opportunity to remember, celebrate, and receive the greatest gift ever given: Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world!
Luke 2:1-21 gives us a detailed account of that first Christmas. An angel proclaimed the good news of Christ’s birth to the shepherds, then was joined by a large heavenly group who praised God by saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2:14 KJV).
Like those who had looked forward for thousands of years to the coming of the promised Savior, today we look back and celebrate the fulfillment of that promise by singing “Joy to the world, the Lord has come”!
Many of us will participate in the Christmas tradition of gathering to celebrate with family, friends, and co-workers. We’ll attend events, give gifts, and enjoy mealtimes together.
However, as we participate in the festivities, let’s be intentional about letting “every heart prepare Him room” so that we may genuinely celebrate God’s gift to humanity and participate in the spirit of the season by showing extra kindness and generosity to those who are in need or may be less fortunate.
On behalf of the entire CHM team, from our homes to yours, we wish you a very blessed and joyous Christmas and Happy New Year!
